This report summarizes Beach Actions (closures and notifications) for each Jurisdiction for each Calendar Year. Data includes only Beach Act Beaches that are not Historical Records.

Definition

1 Year The calendar year used to summarize data for a given Beach or Jurisdiction

2 Jurisdiction A code designator used to identify a principal administrative subdivision of a State, Tribe, or Territory.

3 # of Beach Act Beaches BEACH Act refers to the Beaches Environmental Assessment, Closure, and Health Act of 2000 which focuses on coastal and Great Lakes recreational waters. States/Tribes/Territories provide EPA with a list of their coastal recreational beaches. Identifying BABs is discussed beginning on electronic page 35 (paper page 25)-- 3.2 Step 1: Identify Coastal Recreation Waters of: National Beach Guidance and Required Performance Criteria for Grants

4 # of Monitored Beaches Beaches that have a water quality reporting frequency greater than zero or has monitoring results in WQX/WQP.

5 % of Beach Act Beaches Monitored Percent of all Beaches that are Monitored (have Water Quality Monitoring)

6 # of Tier 1 Beaches States and territories designate their significant public beaches as Tier 1 beaches (requirement of BEACH Act grant program). These are the beaches that have the highest risk.

7 # of Tier 1 Beaches Monitored Number of Tier 1 Beaches in the Jurisdiction that are Monitored

8 % of Tier 1 Beaches Monitored Percent of Monitored Beaches that are ranked Tier 1 (highest risk)

9 Miles of Monitored Beaches Monitored Beach Length (in miles)

10 # of Beach Actions Number of Actions reported at the Beach during the specified time frame

11 # of Beaches With Actions Number of Actions reported at the Beach during the specified time frame

12 # of Beaches With no Actions Beach Nonaction Count

13 % of Beaches With Actions Percent Affect Beach Action

14 # of Beach Days Number of Swim Season Days for the selected year

15 # of Beach Days With Actions Number of Days during the selected year that the Beach was under an Action (Warning, Closure, etc.)

16 # of Beach Days With no Actions Number of Swim Season Days that do not have a Beach Action (advisory, closure, etc.)

17 % of Beach Days With Actions Percent of Beach Days during the Swim Season
